The Experimental
Party, "the party of experimentation," an initiative
of the US Department of Art & Technology, has announcied
a bold, new campaign to encourage "10,000 Acts of Artistic
Mediation.
Randall M. Packer, Secretary of the US Department
of Art & Technology, has called on artists from all 50
states, as well as Europe, Latin America, and Asia, to join
the USA Exquisite Corpse and help overcome society's anxieties
and heightening insecurity by participating in this ambitious
campaign to stage acts of artistic mediation.
The Secretary is challenging each and every
art professor throughout the nation and around the globe
to replicate the campaign in all art schools and university
art departments and activate their students in carrying out
acts of artistic mediation under the banner of the campaign.
The Secretary believes that virtually every
problem in America and the world can be resolved through
the reflections, ideas, sensibilities and abilities of the
artist. There are already countless artistic initiatives
working successfully to subvert the status quo. However,
these successful initiatives are too often isolated and unknown
to others. These initiatives must be replicated over and
over and over again by artists and art collectives until
everyone is connected to someone – many-to-many, peer-to-peer,
soul-to-soul.
The “10,000 Acts of Artistic Mediation” campaign
focuses on the most important challenges facing the nation
today. These problems were long in coming and cannot be
solved overnight. But if each artist and each institution
responds to the Secretary’s call-to-action, the campaign
will be the most comprehensive and inclusive of our time.
This movement can dramatically reverse negative trends
on many fronts to better enable those concerned with the
fate of our world to invent explosive material to toss
into the political-economic bunkers.
